Ideas for the Future of ArtsWest Artist Association
Carol Anderson gave a short presentation on possible themes of future meetings. Other board members contributed ideas as well. The following was ideas and visions were shared:
- Artswest Artists Association has grown to become a diverse group of artists. Programs need to meet the interests of many, therefore, broader themes might promote better attendance.
- Board members discussed the need for creating a yearly budget as well as revisiting/prioritizing annual events and creating a yearly plan of events. As a budget focus, a meeting (October?) will have a representative from the City of Seattle, Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, that will share what’s available for funding opportunities for individuals as well as organizations. Since ArtsWest is a non-profit organization, we would be looking for opportunities in grant writing and/or fund raising.
- Future meeting (November?) will explore “Outsider Art”, represented by Henry Darger. Viewing the DVD “In the Realm of the Unreal” would provide a springboard for discussion amongst members.
- Future meeting (April?) demonstration of Ikebana where members can draw and/or absorb the zen of viewing a practice of Japanese flower arranging.
- Future meeting idea, collaboration in creating artwork.
- Future meeting idea, gallery tour and presentation by the artist that is currently showing at ArtsWest,.
